This week has been a struggle to get all the elements of the promo into place for our final off-line edit, tonight, prior to the on-line edit over the weekend. Due to a couple of computer related problems, Barrington has had to compose the music to a picture that is not quite locked off. He assures us that he can deal with this and Sam & Mark (Sound editors) are prepared to make any adjustments as necessary.

Ian Firth and Luke Smith have been hard at work on the poster design and the titles for the trailer.

Barrington finished recording and mixing the soundtrack around 10.30pm. Meanwhile, in Soho, the trailer was completed and the playouts and EDL's prepared for Sam & Mark and Simon Cox at The Media Agency, who'll be doing our on-line edit.

Further script meetings with Clifton Stewart. We've been developing "An Ordinary God" along with two other ideas, "The Green Children" and "Aviator" (Working titles). The work has progressed very nicely and we have three very interesting projects to take with us to Cannes.

Matt has been working on the two promo effects and today we saw a playout of the two shots at Quantel. The Ghostly effect on the hooded figures is excellent and we spent the remainder of the afternoon perfecting the flare of the symbol burning off the notebook.

Illumina TV were also present and filmed Matt at work on the Domino system and interviewed Simon and Alison for the documentary for FilmFour. Illumina TV have been following the production through to this point. With footage from our main location in East Grinstead, our day at Pinewood Studios, the effects work at Quantel, interviews with our consultants and key crew and the first broadcast of the trailer - the programme, "Short Attention Span Cinema" will be shown on the 12 May at 6pm on the FilmFour channel.

Yesterday the negative was scanned at Quantel so that today we could begin the work on the two effect sequences for the film. After working from the Beta rushes on the Avid it was great to see the quality of the scanned shots on the Domino system, amazing resolution and the first hint of what a 35mm projection of the film might look like.

The two shots in question are a sketched symbol, which fades off a notebook and the appearance of the ghostly hooded figures in the abandoned church. We experimented with the two shots before deciding on a look for the ghosts and the most effective way to fade the symbol from the pages of the notebook. The symbol will be backlit and light will be projected through the sketch which will then flare and fade away, the effect will last about 6 seconds.

Matt Twyford (Digital Effects Supervisor) will spend the next few days working on the shots.

Quantel are set to begin work on two of the special effects for the film. The two shots in question have been chosen as they will also feature in the promo, which needs to be ready by the end of April. A total of 6 shots have been cut from the negative at PNC and biked over to Quantel in Newbury. The negative will be scanned into the Domino system at a rate of 15 seconds per frame - the two shots will take just over three and a half hours to digitize into the system. The finished shots will take up just less than a minute of screen time.

Meanwhile the two Simon's (Director & Editor) are currently at work on the 2nd cut of Ghosthunter.

This morning we met with Barrington Pheloung (Composer) to show him the promo for which he will also be writing the music for. It's always a pleasure meeting with Barrington as he is very enthusiastic about the project. We spent an hour with him in his studio and we hope to meet him again in about a weeks time.

Putting the promo together for Cannes has produced an unexpected benefit for the film. It's giving us an opportunity to pull together the post production team and develop the working relationships. We can try out a musical tone with Barrington, experiment with Quantel and a couple of the effect shots and start thinking about the sound design. By the time we all come to work on the film most of the elements will be already in place. Plus we will soon have something we can pass on to funding bodies in the pursuit of completion funding. The feedback we receive on the promo could also prove very valuable.

I'd recommend anyone involved in low budget filmmaking to produce a promo first. It has given us (Director and Producer) a much needed boost. The six week delay in finding a replacement editor and then having to edit on a part time basis has been quite frustrating. The post production period was beginning to feel like it was going on forever. Seeing the promo come together has given us a short term goal that helps us see the light at the end of the tunnel.

All material for the film has now been transferred to Mark and Sam Auguste (Sound Editors). Although the film is not yet locked Sam will begin the sound design process and we shall meet in about a weeks time to discuss ideas.

We have now cut a two minute promo for Ghosthunter and next week this will also be passed over to Mark and Sam for them to start work on.

There is a new layout to the website. News will be archived each month, for previous announcements follow the "News Archive" link and select the month you wish to read.

We are currently at the 1st cut with Ghosthunter. Tomorrow Simon (director) will begin editing the promo we intend to take with us to Cannes, on one of the office computers using Adobe Premiere. This will allow him to look at certain sequences, an off-off-line edit if you like, to maximize our time with our editor in the edit suite. If this proves successful the same system may work for the film itself.
